A Story in Pictures: Illustrating Sholem Aleichem

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The Yiddish humorist Sholem Aleichem was read almost universally in the Jewish world in his time (1859–1916), and is still beloved today. We will start the session by reading one of his short stories aloud as a group. Participants will then choose a sentence from the story and make an illustration based on that sentence. We will have art supplies including pencils, pens, and collage materials on hand for art-making. At the end of the class, we will hang the illustrations, along with their origin sentences, along a corridor so that session participants and other festival-goers can see the story come to life in pictures.
